TL;DR
Surfer SEO sells four content plans in 2026: Discovery at $59, Standard at $119, Pro at $219 and Peace of Mind at $359 a month on monthly billing, or $49 to $299 a month billed yearly (up to 17% off). A separate AI Search Analytics plan costs $95 a month ($82 billed yearly), and Enterprise is custom-priced. There is no free plan, but new accounts get a 7-day free trial of Pro.
Surfer SEO pricing changed in 2026: the Essential, Scale and Scale AI plans are no longer on Surfer's pricing page. In their place are plans built around content documents, team seats and AI visibility tracking. This guide covers what every Surfer SEO plan costs on monthly and annual billing, what each plan includes, how the trial works and which costs sit outside the plan price.
Surfer SEO plans and prices
Surfer SEO lists four content plans, a separate AI visibility plan and Enterprise. On monthly billing the content plans run from $59 to $359 a month. Paying yearly drops them to $49 to $299 a month, which Surfer describes as a discount of up to 17%. All prices below come from Surfer's pricing page, checked on October 10, 2026.
Every Surfer SEO plan on monthly and annual billing. Annual plans are charged for the full year at checkout.
Discovery ($59/mo, or $49/mo billed yearly) is the entry plan: 120 documents to create or optimize, 1 team seat, 10 tracked pages, AI SEO guidelines and the Surfy assistant with Humanizer. Surfer pitches it at solo content creators.
Standard ($119/mo, or $99/mo billed yearly) adds 360 documents, 3 team seats, 25 AI prompts tracked weekly in ChatGPT, 1-click content optimization, a plagiarism checker and rank drop detection. Surfer aims it at one-person businesses, small teams and agencies.
Pro ($219/mo, or $182/mo billed yearly) keeps 360 documents and adds 5 team seats, 5 brand spaces, 50 AI prompts refreshed daily across all tracked AI models, 1-click internal linking and a cannibalization report. It is also the plan the free trial runs on.
Peace of Mind ($359/mo, or $299/mo billed yearly) lifts the document cap, with a fair usage policy of 500 documents a month (6,000 a year on annual billing). It tracks 100 AI prompts daily and includes 10 team seats, API access, personalized onboarding and a dedicated success manager.
AI Search Analytics ($95/mo, or $82/mo billed yearly) covers AI visibility tracking: 50 AI prompts refreshed daily across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini, mention gap and brand sentiment reports, and 5 brand spaces.
Enterprise has no published price. Surfer lists it as custom, with tailored packages, custom limits, SSO, white-label, an advisory program and priority support.
On an older plan? Surfer says legacy subscriptions were moved to current plans on May 18, 2026. Any price change applies from your next renewal, and some accounts get a temporary transition discount, per Surfer's subscription migration FAQ.
How much does Surfer SEO cost per month?
Surfer SEO costs $59 to $359 a month on monthly billing for its four content plans, or $49 to $299 a month when you pay for a year upfront. Standard, at $119 a month ($99 billed yearly), is the cheapest content plan with more than one seat and AI visibility tracking. Pro costs $219 a month ($182 billed yearly) and suits teams running several brands. Annual plans are charged in full at checkout, and the year's limits are granted at once, as Surfer explains in how annual limits work. Enterprise is quoted on request.
What Surfer SEO costs at each team size
Seats decide which Surfer SEO plan a team needs before document volume does: Discovery includes 1 team seat, Standard 3, Pro 5 and Peace of Mind 10. Here is the yearly cost at each team size, worked out from the list prices on Surfer's pricing page.
1 person: Discovery, $588 a year billed yearly ($49 x 12) or $708 on monthly billing.
Up to 3 people: Standard, $1,188 a year billed yearly ($99 x 12) or $1,428 on monthly billing.
Up to 5 people, or several brands: Pro, $2,184 a year billed yearly ($182 x 12) or $2,628 on monthly billing.
Up to 10 people: Peace of Mind, $3,588 a year billed yearly ($299 x 12) or $4,308 on monthly billing.
More than 10 people: Enterprise, quoted on request.
The pattern: the jump that hurts is the fourth writer. A 3-person team fits Standard at $99 a month billed yearly; add one more seat and the team needs Pro at $182, nearly double. Surfer's pricing page lists no price for extra seats, so above 10 people the conversation moves to Enterprise. For in-house teams above 5 writers, also price Semrush Pro+ at $299 a month ($248.17 billed annually), which includes content optimization, or Outrank at $99 a month with unlimited users.
The costs that sit outside the list price: unused limits do not roll over to the next billing period, yearly plans are charged in full upfront, and UK and EU customers pay VAT unless they add a valid VAT ID, per Surfer's pricing FAQ. Surfer does not publish per-article overage prices on its pricing page or help center, so treat your plan's document count as a hard ceiling and upgrade when you reach it.
Surfer SEO vs Semrush vs Outrank
The 3-way B2B SEO content tool decision in 2026 is Surfer SEO vs Semrush vs Outrank. Each wins for a different operator profile.
Surfer SEO wins on content optimization workflow. The real-time content score + NLP terms + SERP-based recommendations are the cleanest UI in the category. The right buy for content writers who want to optimize while drafting.
Semrush wins on broader SEO toolkit. If you also need keyword research, technical SEO, position tracking and competitor analysis, Semrush covers them in one subscription. Its SEO plan starts at $139/mo ($117.33/mo billed annually), and content optimization comes with Pro+ at $299/mo ($248.17/mo billed annually), per Semrush's pricing page. The right buy for marketing teams who need a full SEO stack, not just a content editor.
Outrank wins on AI-first workflow. Its Organic Growth plan costs $99/mo, or $999 a year, for 30 SEO articles a month generated and published automatically, with unlimited users and integrations including WordPress, Webflow and Framer. More volume costs +$85/mo for 60 articles a month or +$160/mo for 90, per Outrank's pricing page. The right buy for teams shipping AI-assisted articles at volume.
For B2B SaaS content teams of up to 3 writers producing 8 to 30 articles a month manually with SEO optimization, Surfer SEO Standard at $119/mo ($99 billed yearly) is the safest single buy. Above 50 articles a month or for fully AI workflows, Outrank wins on cost per article.
See our Semrush pricing breakdown for the full SEO toolkit comparison.
The hidden cost most teams miss
Surfer SEO's plan pricing looks transparent, but seats and AI tracking decide the plan, not just article volume. A 4-writer team cannot fit Standard's 3 seats and has to move to Pro: $2,184 a year billed yearly instead of $1,188. The lines to watch:
Seats: 1 on Discovery, 3 on Standard, 5 on Pro, 10 on Peace of Mind. AI visibility tracking: none on Discovery, 25 prompts refreshed weekly on Standard, 50 daily on Pro. Limits that do not roll over: unused documents expire with the billing period. Fair use on Peace of Mind: 500 documents a month, or 6,000 a year on annual billing. API access: listed from Peace of Mind upward.
The other thing to watch is renewal. Surfer moved legacy subscriptions to current plans in May 2026 and applies any price change at your next renewal, so check the renewal price in your billing settings before the plan renews.
When to use Surfer SEO vs alternatives
Match 3 of these 4 criteria and Surfer SEO is the right buy: you are an in-house B2B content marketer (not an agency), your team is 1-5 writers, you write 10-50 SEO articles/month manually with optimization, and you do not need broader SEO toolkit features.
Below those criteria: solo with under 10 articles/month use Surfer SEO Discovery ($49/mo billed yearly), full SEO stack use Semrush Pro+ at $299/mo, AI-heavy workflow use Outrank at $99/mo.
Who should buy Surfer SEO
Match 3 of these 4 criteria and Surfer SEO is the right buy: you run a B2B SaaS content team at 1-5 writers, you write 10-50 SEO articles/month manually with optimization, your workflow is "draft + optimize" not "AI generate + publish", and you do not already use Semrush for broader SEO.
Who should skip Surfer SEO
Skip Surfer SEO if you have a dedicated SEO researcher who needs Semrush's full toolkit, if your motion is AI-first content generation at scale (Outrank's $99/mo plan publishes 30 articles a month with unlimited users), or if you publish fewer than 5 articles/month (free tools like Google Search Console plus Frase cover it).
FAQ
How much does Surfer SEO cost per month?
Surfer SEO's content plans cost $59 (Discovery), $119 (Standard), $219 (Pro) and $359 (Peace of Mind) a month on monthly billing. Billed yearly, they work out at $49, $99, $182 and $299 a month. AI Search Analytics costs $95 a month ($82 billed yearly), and Enterprise is custom-priced.
Is there a Surfer SEO free trial?
Yes. New accounts get a 7-day free trial of the Pro plan. You choose a plan and enter card details at checkout, and when the 7 days end the trial converts to that plan and your card is charged unless you cancel first, as described in how the Surfer trial works. The trial is for new accounts only.
What plans does Surfer SEO offer?
Surfer SEO offers Discovery, Standard, Pro and Peace of Mind for content work, AI Search Analytics for tracking how AI answers mention your brand, and a custom Enterprise plan. The Essential, Scale and Scale AI plans quoted in older guides are no longer on the pricing page.
Is there a free Surfer SEO plan?
No. Surfer's pricing page lists no free plan, and the cheapest paid plan is Discovery at $49 a month billed yearly. You can test the product with the 7-day Pro trial, and Surfer also offers free standalone tools such as its AI content detector.
Surfer SEO vs Semrush: which is cheaper?
Depends on use case. For content-only workflows, Surfer SEO is cheaper: Discovery costs $59/mo and Standard $119/mo, against $139/mo for Semrush's entry SEO plan and $299/mo for Pro+, the Semrush plan that adds content optimization. If you need keyword research, position tracking, site audits and competitor research too, one Semrush plan covers more ground. Most B2B teams that already use Semrush do not need Surfer SEO.
Do I need both Surfer SEO and Semrush?
For B2B teams under $5M ARR, no. Surfer SEO Standard covers content optimization; Semrush's SEO plan covers SEO research. Pick one based on your bottleneck. Above $5M ARR with dedicated SEO teams, both make sense: Surfer SEO Standard plus Semrush SEO comes to about $216 a month billed annually ($99 + $117.33).
What is the difference between Surfer SEO Standard and Pro?
Both include 360 documents. Pro adds 2 more seats (5 instead of 3), 5 brand spaces, 50 AI prompts refreshed daily across all tracked AI models instead of 25 weekly in ChatGPT, 1-click internal linking and the cannibalization report. The gap is $100 a month on monthly billing ($219 vs $119), or $83 a month billed yearly ($182 vs $99).
Does Surfer SEO have a contract?
Surfer SEO bills monthly or yearly and renews automatically. You can turn auto-renewal off at any time and keep access until the paid period ends. Yearly plans are charged in full upfront for up to 17% off. Upgrades are prorated and take effect immediately; downgrades start at the next billing date. Enterprise terms are agreed with Surfer's sales team.
Can Surfer SEO replace Semrush?
For content-only workflows, yes. Surfer SEO's content editor + SERP analyzer cover most on-page SEO optimization needs. Surfer SEO does not replace Semrush for keyword research at scale, backlink analysis, technical SEO audits, or competitor research.
Is Surfer SEO worth it for small B2B teams?
Yes for B2B teams with an active SEO content motion: Discovery costs $49/mo billed yearly for one writer, and Standard $99/mo billed yearly for up to 3. Below that, run Google Search Console (free) plus Surfer's free tools as a starter stack. Surfer SEO only justifies the spend if you are actively shipping 10+ SEO articles/month.
Bottom line
Surfer SEO pricing in 2026 is transparent at the plan level: $59 to $359 a month, or $49 to $299 billed yearly, with seats deciding which plan a team needs. Surfer SEO Standard at $119/mo ($99 billed yearly) is the right buy for B2B content teams of up to 3 writers shipping 10 to 50 articles a month manually; teams of 4 or 5, or with several brands, need Pro at $219/mo ($182 billed yearly).
For B2B content teams above 5 writers or 50 articles a month, evaluate Outrank at $99/mo (AI-first, unlimited users) or Semrush Pro+ at $299/mo (full SEO toolkit with content optimization).
